Password Security
Most of your important online information is protected by a username and password. If this information gets into the hands of hackers, it may be used against you. For instance, a hacker could open new credit card accounts, apply for a mortgage, or pose as you in online interactions. The best way to avoid becoming a victim of this caliber of identity theft is to create a strong password.
Here are some helpful password tips:
- Your password should be at least 8 characters long—14 or longer is ideal. (The longer the password, the harder it is to guess.)
- Use a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols.
- Create a password you can easily remember, but is not easily guessed by others. (For instance, you wouldn’t want to use your birthdate, phone number, or address.)
